We are looking for a Research Scientist V with deep expertise in hearing science and psychoacoustics to lead and execute research programs focused on hearing-assistive technologies.

This is a hands-on research role involving the design and execution of listening studies, evaluation of signal-processing approaches against human performance, development and assessment of hearing-assistive algorithms, and translation of research findings into requirements for future audio technologies.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Define and drive research direction for hearing-science programs, independently scoping and executing studies focused on hearing-assistive technology.
• Execute established research plans through study design, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
• Design and conduct listening experiments and human-subject studies, including participant protocols, stimulus design, and psychoacoustic measurements.
• Prototype, tune, and evaluate hearing-assistive signal-processing algorithms and fitting approaches.
• Evaluate signal-processing approaches against human performance and experimental outcomes.
• Analyze experimental data and clearly communicate findings to research, engineering, and product partners.
• Collaborate closely with audio researchers, hardware engineers, and software engineers to translate scientific findings into system requirements.
• Work hands-on with prototype and head-worn audio hardware in laboratory environments.
• Document research methods, study designs, and results to support continuity and knowledge transfer.
• Independently manage research priorities and operate effectively in an evolving, early-stage research environment.

Required Qualifications:

• PhD in Hearing Science, Audiology, Auditory Neuroscience, Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical research experience.
• 8+ years of relevant experience in hearing science, psychoacoustics, and hearing-assistive signal processing; relevant PhD research experience may count toward this requirement.
• Demonstrated domain expertise in hearing science and psychoacoustics.
• Hands-on experience with hearing-aid or hearing-assistive signal processing, including areas such as amplification, compression, noise reduction, directionality, or feedback management.
• Experience with hearing-aid or hearing-assistive fitting approaches.
• Experience designing, conducting, and analyzing human-subject listening studies.
• Technical proficiency sufficient to independently prototype algorithms and experimental tools.
• Experience using technical computing or programming environments such as MATLAB and/or Python.
• Proven ability to independently set research direction and execute studies with minimal supervision.
• Strong experimental design, data analysis, documentation, and technical communication skills.
• Ability and willingness to work onsite in Redmond, WA.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with speech-in-noise measurement and speech intelligibility enhancement.
• Experience with wearable or head-worn audio devices.
• Experience with microphone arrays, beamforming, or spatial audio processing.
• Strong prototyping experience using MATLAB and/or Python.
• Track record of publications in hearing science, audiology, psychoacoustics, acoustics, or audio signal processing.
• Experience working with cross-functional hardware and software engineering teams in a product research environment.
• Experience conducting applied research at the intersection of psychoacoustics, signal processing, and consumer audio or wearable technologies.
